Fat Loss Rule No.2

The 5 Most Effective Principles of Fat Loss

2. Eat a Variety of Foods

When I ask new clients to keep a food diary so I can analyse their eating habits over a week, I am constantly surprised to find that most tend to eat the same foods every day of every week. Statistics show that we only consume 10% of the foods that are currently on offer to us. Food shopping for the majority of us has now become an inconvenience and is done with little passion or interest, we seem to wonder the aisles like zombies selecting produce on convenience rather than nutritional value or quality.
To prove the point further, listen to the out cry from shoppers when the supermarkets re-merchandise their stores! Crazy!

So, why is variety so important to fat loss? We need to consume a wide variety of foods to ensure we take advantage of the wide array of vitamins and nutrients that are found in individual foods. Something I try to encourage my clients to follow is to introduce a new food into their diet every week. This will ensure you broaden your nutritional horizon and become a little more adventurous with your cooking. No more same old, same old….break the habit!

A question I am often asked is- “How much dairy should I have?”

I say no problem, just don’t consume too much and vary the type. Don’t just consume vast quantities of cow’s milk and nothing else, combine cheese, natural yogurt, butter and cream. If you are worried about intolerance, not being so reliant upon one source will mean that you needn’t worry when trying to avoid cow’s milk for example when you’re dining out. You should have no hang ups with natural nutrition.

What about Gluten grains?

Wheat, rye, oats and barley all contain ‘gliadin’ and as a result they are all classified as gluten grains. Gliadin can irritate the lining of intestinal tract. Gluten is a sticky substance that is used to trap the air in bread, ensuring it expands. (Now think what that’s doing inside your gut)!

Many (if not all) of my clients have massively benefited from removing bread and other high gluten products such as pasta, cereals and other wheat based products from their diets. It’s never a bad thing to eat them every so often, if nothing else you’ll soon realise what they do to your stomach!

Wheat and weight, what’s the problem?

Now I don’t care what anyone says on this, wheat causes weight problems. Wheat contains up to 45% gliadin, remember this causes irritation and inflammation to the intestinal wall of the gut. I often find that the people who come to me wanting to lose the most weight eat the most wheat, I cut the wheat and their stomach stats to shrink (literally) and that IBS becomes a thing of the past!

I urge you put it to the test, try it for your self and don’t just take my word for it!
