Burn more fat when you run

I thought I’d share with you 3 ways to burn more fat while you run.

Don’t worry if your not currently following a running program, that is not essential as you can do these sessions regardless.

If you are running try replacing a 4-5 mile plod with one of these high calorie burning sessions.

INTERVALS

  • What

Aternating sprints of a set distance (such as 400m) with recover laps in between.

  • Why

Sprinting at high speeds makes your body work harder and can burn 30% more calories in the process.

  • How

4 x 100m hard and fast, walk back to the start if on track, walk slowly on the treadmill for 2 minutes. 8 x 200m hard with 200m easy in between intervals. 4 x400m hard (max speed) with 400m walking in between.

CALORIES BURNED = 500-700

FARTLEK TRAINING

  • What The Swedish work for 'speed play'. A less formal version if intervals.

  • Why As intervals do Fartlek allows your body to burn more calories by running faster.

  • How While out running on the streets pick street lamps and use them as markers. Sprint to one then walk one, alternate your distances to suit a 45 min session.

CALORIES BURNED = 450-550

HILLS

  • What

Running up a hill or a period of time

  • Why

Hill require more force to overcome the incline. This is a challenging cardio workout and takes a lot of mental toughness to complete. It's also a great way to strengthen legs and glutes.

-How

Find a steep hill about 40-80m long either on grass or road. Each time your running up the hill and jogging back to recover. Start with 10 repeats and progress to 20 as you become fitter and stronger. Attack the hill as hard as possible. Always focus on perfect technique.

CALORIES BURNED = 600+
