Fat Loss Rule No.3

###Avoid sugar###

Sugar is as much to blame for fat storage (if not more) than fat its self. I cannot begin to emphasise the benefits that will come as a result of eliminating sugar from your daily food intake.

Firstly I should explain exactly what I mean by ‘sugar’. There are many different names used to describe sugar, such as - white, brown, granulated, caster, honey and fruit sugar even. No wonder it becomes confusing when trying to identify which to cut and which to keep!

An increased amount of sugar in the diet will dramatically increase the amount and frequency of insulin secretion in the body.

How does this have an effect on weight loss?

Sugar in all forms is broken down by the digestive system and turned into glucose very quickly, as blood/glucose levels rise the body starts to produce more insulin. An increased level of insulin will force the glucose level down again by converting glucose into fat.

Quite simply, if we want to shed body fat we need to cut sugar from our diet. Make extra effort to steer clear of foods which contain a high sugar level that can be converted to glucose quickly.

Names for sugar Sucrose, Honey, Fructose, Lactose, Maltose, Malt, Invert sugar, Syrup, Sorbitol, Corn syrup….the list goes on. A general rule to follow would be, if the word ends in ‘ose’ it’s a sugar. Go and check a food label now, remember the ingredients are listed in order of highest amount.

The fat free myth!

Fat free means I get slim, right?

Wrong!

Sugars are added to packet foods 9 out of 10 times, usually using many different types (as above). When more sugar is added to a food product it will usually have the fat content reduced. This allows food manufacturers to claim a product is ‘virtually fat free’, a claim which is true but harmful if your reason for choosing theses foods is to ‘lose fat’.

You may have purchased these foods for years in the hope they would make you thin, have you ever experienced any lasting results?

So why don’t you become thin when all you eat is ‘reduced fat’ and ‘fat free’ foods? Because during your quest for weight loss you have been inadvertently over consuming foods containing heavily refined sugars. Which as a result have actually caused an increase in body fat levels.

Hey, guess what happens?

You go out and buy more ‘reduced fat’ foods to chase down your goal of being slim. Now I am pretty cynical but if that was a marketing plan then the £££’s would soon be stacking up…or should that be lbs? Hmmm…
